Client Name: REMEE WIRE AND CABLE
Project: Communication Cable - to multiple locations
Date: Delivering Mid January 2024
Background:
This project was for long time client, Remee Wire and Cable. It consisted of palletized LTL (less-than-truckload) shipments going to 8 different locations across Ontario and Quebec.
The goal was to save money and time by directly offloading the goods from an ocean container instead of transloading into trailer/trucks.
Shipment consisted of approx. 40 pallets all different sizes and weights. Different groups of pallets had to be delivered to the door of each receiver (8 different locations). 4 delivery locations were in Montreal area and other 4 were in Southern Ontario. Thus, it was planned to ship one container to Montreal port and one to Toronto rail ramp to maximize efficiency.
Remee Wire and Cable's containers somewhere in Atlantic Ocean.
Solution:
Having decided that all pallets would fit in two 40-foot containers. With the pallet counts and receiver addresses, optimal delivery route was created using google maps and trip planner. After that, Roadpin operations called each receiver to ask about their weekly receiving hours. With some adjustment, stop order was concluded for the delivery route.
After organizing the 8 different locations by stop #, stuffing order of the containers could be determined. Goods loaded into the container first, would be offloaded last. Client was happy with the communication that was provided throughout the shipment. Even when there were operational delays and unforeseen circumstances, Roadpin kept open channels of communication to ensure every party was constantly in the loop of what was happening next with the shipment.
Outcome:
Thousands of dollars were saved by not transloading. In addition to this, offloading directly from the container proved to be much faster. Even with one storage day between, each container made all of its stops in 2-3 days.
